The Glow Up: Getting that Flawless, Silky Skin

We all want it. We all crave it. We all need it. And I have the guide for you! Finally get your soft skin and bring in that glow!

Now let's be honest. DNA does play a significant part in how your skin is. Some people have oily skin, others have dry skin, and some have a combination of the two. There are a lot of different skin types and pigmentations and what not. I happen to have oily skin, which is natural and from the coconut oil I use. I tend to follow a moderate skin routine, so here are some of my tricks and secrets.
  • Cut down on the soda. I don't care how much you like the fizz and taste. Soda is full of sugar and is the number one reason why I tend to break out. I cut back on the soda a few years ago, and haven't had one big breakout since. To begin to slowly cut out soda, replace soda with juice, and then gradually replace juice with water. Thank me later!

  • Wash your face twice a day. Use warm to hot water (as much as you can handle without burning yourself) to open up your pores. Also try not to use harsh cleansers that irritate or dry out your skin. After long nights out, go ahead and take off any makeup or sweat, DO NOT SLEEP IN IT. When you don't take makeup off or wipe your face before going to bed, your pillow carries all those germs (don't forget to change it often).

  • Eat a balanced diet. Get all those good nutritional groups in. Bad eating habits = bad skin. Chips and heavy sugary things are good once in a while, not daily. If you eat nothing but chips, your skin will be like chips: greasy.

  • Know what habits affect your skin. Bad sleep, staying in the sun for way too long, smoking, and heavy caked-on makeup all affect your skin. Try to get a full night's rest. Use protection when out in the sun for long periods of time. Smoking changes your body. Heavily layered daily makeup will clog your face.

  • Moisturize right after you get out the shower. Your pores are still open and you aren't just lotion the top layer. I have days where I forget (it happens) but due to this habit, I can't really tell if I'm ashy.
