A Day with Kat: College

How does one balance a day in college? Here's how my days go!

7:00 - 7:30 : I set my morning alarm specifically for this time. I don't necessarily get up at this time, though (Unless it's Tuesday when I have my 8 am class)! I usually wake myself up slowly and get my mind into what all I have planned to do that day. Also, the sunrise is so beautiful as it streams in from the window!

8:00 - 9:30 : This is when I get dressed and head out. I usually go grab some coffee or get breakfast (breakfast is very very important) depending on how much time I have before class. If I am running really close to being late, I usually grab a water bottle and a small snack from the closet to keep me ok until I can get lunch.

9:30 to 3ish : A big jump, I know, but I specifically set my class schedule to have most of my classes in the morning. I am not a morning person, but doing this gives me a big time gap in the afternoon to get any work done. This helps most for when I want to go out at night. Who wants to be at a party thinking about the five papers that are due in two days? During this time, I try to work in a little lunch break for myself.

3ish to 7ish : Minimal phone use during this time. This is my sacred study/chore time. I get the most work done during the day because I am not as tired as I would be if I did it all at night. I use a study app that utilizes the 25-5 study plan, where I study and work on one subject for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute rest (I'll do another post on how helpful this is!).

7ish to 9ish : Dinner. Dinner. Dinnnner. Dinner. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have dinner. I try not to eat close to sleeping because I have a strange sleep-walking thing that is fueled on by having a ton of sugar right before sleep.

9ish to 12am/1am/2am : Depending on if it's the weekend, I usually go to bed at one of these times. The later times like 1 am and 2 am tend to be when I go out to parties or hanging out with friends. On a normal weekday, I try to head to be ahead of 12 am. I am kind of a night owl so getting up early in the morning is not really a problem. It varies from day to day what I do each night, but I still try to keep to this schedule.

So why this post? I knew time management was a struggle for me last semester, with my dumb self constantly going to bed at or after 2:00 am. My new schedule for this semester makes it so much easier for me to organize my day, and balance work and fun stuff. But definitely everyone should at least have:

  • A time to get up and a time to sleep
  • When they have free time versus study time
  • Time for having a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Relaxation time (everyone needs personal time)
I hope this helps someone!
